Ubud Hotels
Resting 600 meters above the beaches of Bali are the fourteen villages that comprise the town of Ubud, a name which derives from an ancient Balinese word that means medicine. At the center of the town is the Puri Saren Agung, the great water palace that reverentially celebrates the healing waters of Ubud. Like the mythical Shangri-La, this rain forest hamlet is outside of the realm of the technocratic and within the nurturing rains of the primordial. This amalgamation of villages is also considered the fountainhead of Balinese art.
The elevation of Ubud gives it a more moderate climate than that of the coastal areas. It is still very hot and humid, with January and February being prone to torrential, monsoon rains.
In the past several decades, Ubud has developed a very diverse range of lodging that run the gamut from the ostentatious to the primitive.
